It Beats Rolling Up the Bag the Coffee Came In
We keep our ground coffee in a Tupperware-like snap lid container. Or we did until it broke. I was surprised at how hard it was to find a replacement, and how expensive. Came across this and figured, hey, why not? Reasonable price and quick Prime delivery.
Well, it works just fine. Easily holds the standard 12 ounce bag, with room to spare. Not too tall for the coffee shelf and slim enough to not take up too much room. The "press the button" mechanism to slide the top on and off works well and smoothly. Easy to clean and dry off.
I know it's not a super-complete vacuum, but it's enough, and it's better than rolling up the bag the coffee came in. I didn't need something that was hermetically sealed, I just needed something that would keep the coffee fresh for the few days it takes us to go through a bag. This has turned out to be just right for that purpose.
TightVacs have been the best 're-sealable' containers I have used...(and I've tried a LOT of brands). Opens and closes easily. No 'rubber gasket' to break and/or catch on the lid. Mine oldest one has (so far) maintained it's 'vacuum' for well over 18 months of constant use.
One caution.... I would 'hand wash' the lids...no dishwashers.
I roast small batches of green coffee beans at home. I purchased the Tightvac to help preserve the freshness of my roasted coffee beans. I like the size and simplicity of the container. I like hearing the air being forced out as I press the lid down. I like how the lid stays firmly in place unless the release valve is depressed, confirming that the container is doing its job of keeping air from entering. I generally put my freshly roasted beans in the container as soon as they cool and have experienced no problems. I have found it useful to place my freshly roasted beans in an open plastic baggie before putting them in the Tightvac to prevent the inside of the container from getting oily. I believe the container does help to preserve the freshness of my coffee.
